SUSTAINABILITY & ANIMAL WELFARE
Sustainability is not simply a trend — it is a business imperative and a moral obligation at Sirsil SA.
URUGUAY’S NATURAL ADVANTAGE
More than 80% of Uruguay’s territory is dedicated to livestock grazing on natural and improved pastures. Unlike intensive feedlot systems, Uruguayan cattle spend virtually all their lives grazing on open grasslands — producing beef that is leaner, lower in saturated fat, richer in Omega-3 fatty acids, and produced without the systematic use of antibiotics or growth hormones.
This natural production model is inherently more sustainable, preserving biodiversity, reducing grain-intensive feeding systems, and maintaining the country’s remarkable low carbon footprint per unit of beef produced.
OUR THREE PILLARS
We strictly adhere to the Five Freedoms of animal welfare. Cattle arrive in compliant vehicles, rest upon arrival, and are handled by trained personnel using low-stress techniques. Humane stunning applied prior to slaughter per national and international standards.
We operate in compliance with Uruguay's DINAMA environmental regulations for meatpacking plants. This includes responsible treatment of processing wastewater, solid waste management, energy efficiency improvements, and minimizing water consumption throughout operations.
Sirsil SA is a source of stable employment in the Montevideo community. We are committed to fair wages, safe working conditions, and compliance with Uruguayan labor law. Worker safety through PPE requirements, ongoing safety training, and a culture that encourages hazard reporting.
